MANDATORY Orientation to learn about the August 2019 Firefighter classes
for Tampa Fire Rescue and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue
will be held on THURSDAY, JUNE 13.
Two sessions will be held. ALL prospective Firefighter students MUST attend ONE of these meetings:

Thursday, June 13 @ 6:30 pm
These meetings will be held in the auditorium at Aparicio-Levy Technical College,
10119 E. Ellicott St., Tampa (off Falkenburg, between MLK & Hyw 92)
Additional paperwork will be distributed at those meetings.
Registration for the Firefighter programs will start on Monday, June 17.
The Tampa Fire Rescue program, formerly operated under Learey Technical College, will now be operated under Aparicio-Levy Technical College. Nothing will change except the title of the College operating the program. Both Learey and Aparicio-Levy are Technical Colleges within the Hillsborough County Public Schools system. Aparicio-Levy Technical College will now operate BOTH the Tampa Fire Rescue and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue programs.
This program follows the State of Florida Firefighter I & II curriculum, which offers a comprehensive training that prepares the candidate to take the State Certification. The curriculum includes the framework set by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
Length of the Program: 398 hours, plus a 52-hour local add-on to prepare for State Certification (6 months)
The Tampa Fire Rescue class meets Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, August 12, 2019 - November 20, 2019.
The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue class meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, 6:00 – 10:00 pm and Saturdays, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, August 13, 2019 - February 1, 2020.
Program Costs: $ 2,934.00 for HILLSBOROUGH Fire (includes rental bunker gear) or $ 1,934.00 for TAMPA Fire (students must rent approx. $1,000 in bunker gear) paid to the school, plus additional personal equipment purchases and testing fees

Special Requirements: Students must have completed an approved EMT program to enroll in this program

Licensure/Certification/Other: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to state the Florida Minimum Standards Firefighter exam.
Employment/Career Opportunities: Career opportunities include: Firefighter I & II, Fire Apparatus Operator, and Emergency Vehicle Operator.
Salaries: The mean hourly starting salary for graduates is: $17.25, based on the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Bureau of Labor Market Statistics, for Hillsborough County, Florida.
